My first exposure to turning came when as a youngster I helped my father make a wooden priest for his angling kitbag.  Much, much later I was looking for something to do and picked up a small piece of a mystery timber and tried to replicate that work using an electric drill. As all turners will know that approach is not good, fraught with potential for disaster and unlikely to produce anything worth a second look. So, it was for me, except that by chance I had happened on a timber of extraordinary marking with a stunning grain pattern.  A realisation that inside even an ordinary branch lay the possibility of great patterns and colours.

Self-improvement before youtube was very hard and frequently painful but with courses from the late Allan Batty, Jimmy Clews, Andrew Hall, Mark Sanger and encouragement from John Milne I have reached my present level. I continue learning and developing new skills.
